“Women Are Always Right”: A Weapon or a Lesson?
Have you ever experienced losing an argument with your girlfriend?
You stand your ground, but she calmly disagrees, saying, “I just know it.” She doesn’t even have evidence. But, as it turns out, she’s right.
Women seem to have access to some secret intelligence that men have no grasp of, which has led to the creation of the expression “Women are always right.”
While it’s a funny saying that points to a usual experience, some women use it to have their way, while men cite it to show how women are unjust.
Even if they were in the right, the phrase should neither be used as women’s justification nor as an insult to them.
Instead of treating it as a weapon to attack, know the truth behind the saying to gain a perspective that can help you strengthen your relationship.
What’s the basis for the saying?
Scientifically speaking, women’s brains are wired differently from men’s.
According to a study entitled Sex Differences in the Structural Connectome of the Human Brain, male brains are designed to connect their perception and action. Meanwhile, female brains are structured to connect the analytical and intuitive regions in their minds.
So, while men have more refined motor skills, women are more inclined toward intuitive thinking. And while men are more logical, women are more emotional and empathetic.
Because of their sensitivity to emotions, women are more attentive to non-verbal cues that easily slip from men’s sight. With these cues, they have a more holistic understanding of a person.
And in turn, they can draw conclusions that don’t rely on scientific explanations.
Men don’t have intuitions like that, hence the adage, “Women are always right.”
Use your differences to enrich your connection
Because men’s and women’s brains are naturally different, historically, men often took on the role of hunters, while women were the caretakers of the family and their community. Both contributed to the growth of society.
If you think about it this way, our differences as sexes allow us to complement each other.
So even if women have such an ability, that doesn’t mean there’s no more room for the male voice in a relationship.
In other words, a relationship is not the monopoly of either man or woman. Each should have fair opportunities to voice their opinions. After all, a logical view is as valuable as an intuitive insight into a situation.
Moreover, discussions should not boil down to who’s right or wrong; it’s not a competition. On the contrary, differences can be used to deepen connections.
That said, practice engaging in open dialogues in your relationship wherein each person’s feelings and needs are respected. In this way, you can form a more balanced perspective and make wiser decisions.
Another Perspective on the Saying “Women Are Always Right”
The saying is not a weapon for women to prove that they’re the better sex, nor is it a reason for men to mock the former. Instead, it’s a valuable lesson for enriching relationships.
So, while you and your partner may be total opposites at times, you can learn to embrace each other’s uniqueness. From there, you can build an intricate, meaningful, and exciting relationship.
