Traveling opens up a world of opportunities. You get to see new sights, eat delectable cuisines, and embark on thrilling adventures. But, there’s one thing travelers often forget. They tend to overlook the importance of the people who live in the place or country that they visit.

Most don’t get the full cultural experience a place offers since they don’t interact with the locals. Consequently, they can’t fully appreciate the culture they are exploring.

For instance, when I visited Thailand, I mainly focused on historical places and eco-attractions. I only realized how surface-level my trip was when I was asked, how the locals were — were they kind? demanding? aggressive?

I honestly didn’t know how to respond, so when I went back to the country, I made sure I engaged with the people and that was the best decision that I’ve ever made. It made me realize a lot of things about the people in the country.

Facts about the Thai community

Here’s what I learned while interacting with locals during my Thailand trip:

It’s easy to ask a local in Thailand.

One of the most useful parts about interacting with the locals is they can give you intel on what to do and not do when exploring their locality. That said, you’d be surprised how willing a lot of Thai people are to give you travel advice.

If you want to know the best places to visit that will give you your money’s worth, ask a local. If you want to know which place to go to and which ones to avoid, ask a local. If you want to better understand Thai culture, ask a local. Trust me, your trip will be more enjoyable if you follow the locals’ advice.

It’s easy to form friendships in Thailand.

Nothing is more amazing than making friends and forming meaningful connections with new people, especially when you’re traveling. Luckily for you, Thais are some of the most friendly people in the world. The country is called The Land of Smiles for a reason, and that reason is because you’ll find most locals always smiling.

It’s easy to make friends in Thailand. All you need to do is take initiative in starting a conversation with them. Whether you’re asking for directions or complimenting their culture, Thais will willingly engage with you. You just need to be more interactive.

Thais want you to have a great travel experience.

The country is a famous and top international travel destination, and it’s not just the scenery and food choices that’s making it on the top of everyone’s travel bucket list. One other main reason is the country’s local people.

If you ask most travelers, they will tell you that Thai people are really helpful. They always lend a hand whenever the occasion arises. And they are not just helpful to fellow locals, this level of hospitality is extended to foreign visitors too.

The point of traveling is to explore a new culture.

What better way to do so than by engaging and connecting with the locals? If you’re in Thailand or anywhere else in the world, make sure to spend time interacting with the locals. It will make your trip better and worthwhile.
