How Long Can a US Citizen Stay in Thailand?
Traveling to Thailand is a breeze with an American passport. You can stay in the country for at most 30 days without a visa, and if your passport is valid for six months or more upon your travel and you have an onward or return airline ticket.

Nevertheless, many travelers choose to stay longer than that. If you choose to, you can request an extension later or process a visa beforehand.
How Can You Process a Request for a Visa-Free Extension?
Let’s say you’ve already entered Thailand with your American passport alone but later decide to stay longer than 30 days. What happens then?
You can extend your trip by filing a request at one of the immigration offices in the country.
According to the US Consulate in Thailand, all you have to do is comply with their requirements and pay the 1900 baht fee, or about $52, and you’re good to go for another month in the Land of Smiles!
What Type of Visa Does a US Citizen Need?

How long can a US citizen stay in Thailand with a tourist visa?
You can enjoy 60 days in the country and have a chance to extend for 30 more days. That’s a total of 90 days in Thailand!
Directly apply through the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in the US. They will give you your initial number of stays, which you must use within 90 days from the issuance date. Afterwards, you may request an extension once by applying through an immigration office in Thailand.
If you want to stay even longer, consider applying for long-term visas, such as non-immigrant visas and Thai Elite visas.
Retirement Visa
Are you 50 years old or older? You can apply for a retirement visa to Thailand and stay for a maximum of one year.
You only need to meet the financial requirement of earning at least 65,000 baht, or around $1700 per month — whether from your pension or other regular income from a source outside Thailand.
Another option is to present a bank account with a balance of at least 800,000 baht or $21,700.
