INTERRACIAL DATING
Why Single Asian Women Are Falling for Western Men
More and more Asian women are tying the knot with Western men.
Pew Research Center reveals that among interracial married couples in the United States, the second most common pairing is between an Asian woman and a white man, comprising 11% of intermarriages (Livingston and Brown 2017).
But what attracts these family-oriented and traditional Asian women to Western men, who are arguably their cultural opposites?
Most people think the obvious answer is for financial reasons. However, Western men deserve more credit.
While financial stability might be part of the story, there’s plenty more they can offer, making single Asian women see them as ideal lifetime partners.
1. They’re chill and fun.
Asian culture is rich in customs and traditions. Asian women respect hierarchy, uphold religious beliefs, and align their behavior with societal norms.
While tradition is good, rules can create a sense of rigidity.
Because of this, Asian women find Western men’s laid-back and fun attitude a breath of fresh air. They help them appreciate the pleasurable side of life instead of succumbing to work and societal pressures.
Asian women learn to balance and enjoy life with a Western man by their side.
2. They’re mature and responsible.
Western men value freedom and independence. They learned to stand on their own two feet early in life. Though they maintain a loving connection with their family, they don’t depend on them for everything. Some even fund their college education through their hard-earned resources.
They know what it means to be mature and responsible — two of the most essential characteristics single Asian women look for in a man, as these qualities make them feel secure and cared for in a relationship.
3. They’re open-minded.
Asian women endure marital pressures. Society expects them to tie the knot before reaching their 30s. Otherwise, they’re no longer desirable. Consequently, many singles find it challenging to find a husband locally.
However, they don’t encounter similar expectations from Western men. Among newlywed Asian women in the United States aged 40 years and above, 56% are married to a foreigner (Livingston and Brown 2017).
The latter are more open to dating women of different ages and are more understanding toward single mothers and divorcees. Perhaps because of the liberated Western culture, they don’t see age as a hindrance to relationships with Asian women.
4. They’re affectionate.
Western men are not afraid to show love. They shower their partner with gifts, hugs, and kisses, making them feel special.
Single Asian women might find this uncomfortable, especially in the early dating stages. Asian society is conservative, meaning that most people frown upon public displays of affection.
When they know their man has sincere intentions, they’ll appreciate such sweet manifestations of love. In turn, they’ll also show their affection.
Western Men Bring a New Perspective
Western men bring a fresh outlook to life. Through them, Asian women discover a new culture, lifestyle, and way to love.
Ultimately, their racial difference isn’t a hindrance to building a loving connection. Instead, it adds richness and meaning to their relationship.
