Communication is the lifeblood of a relationship. But when you’re long-distance, you face a gap. You and your partner can either do something to bridge it or let it be.

Fortunately, technology helps you stay connected through chat and video calls.

According to a statistical report from Gitnux, long-distance couples send each other an average of 343 messages weekly (Lindner 2023). That’s how much effort they make to keep in touch.

However, as time passes, you can’t help wanting to go beyond online conversations and do things like other couples do.

Well, get more creative and have fun together virtually! Here are some activities for long distance relationships, so couples like you can bridge the gap.

1. Cook Together

Spending time online doesn’t have to mean facing the screen all the time. One of the fun things you can do is cook together!

Perhaps you’ve mentioned a particular dish in your conversations and have always wanted to try it. Well, try to cook that dish yourselves.

Go on a video call to communicate as if you’re both in the same kitchen. Cap the night off with an online dinner, relishing your homemade dish.

2. Play Games

Going to the arcade is always a fun date. However, you can’t play together when you’re miles apart. So, it’s better to automatically cross this out of your possible activities for long distance relationships, right?

However, there are plenty of online games available, allowing you to play together even though you’re at your respective homes.

Compete with each other in bowling, shooting hoops, or racing cars. You can also play board games like Snakes and Ladders or Dominoes. If you want more engaging and long-term online games, try DomiNations, Overcooked, or Plunder Pirates.

3. Movie Night

You don’t need to go to the cinema together to enjoy a film you both like. There are many online movie streaming sites that offer you not just recent films but also classic ones.

Choose an evening when you’re both free, prepare popcorn and drinks, set up your FaceTime or Zoom, and you’re good to go. You’ll feel as if you’re on the same couch as you witness each other’s reactions and hear each other’s thoughts in real-time.

4. Karaoke

Are you and your partner fond of music and singing? If so, a karaoke night should be in order. Try Singa, KaraFun, or Sing Kings. Set things up beforehand to belt out your favorite songs without technical problems.

It might be challenging to do a duet because video calls tend to have delays. But you can still try, or better yet, take turns singing as if you’re serenading each other.

5. Arts

If you’re an artsy couple, bond together through drawing or painting online. Join an online workshop together or choose a joint project to work on, like crochet, embroidery, origami, or calligraphy.

To add some competition, try Draw With Friends, a combined drawing and guessing game you can play 1v1 or with another couple.

Keep Things Fresh and Interesting

Activities for long distance relationships allow couples like you to maintain and even strengthen your connection.

Choose from any of my recommendations. While you’re at it, note which ones you would also like to try once you and your partner meet face-to-face.
